The Amber Temple is an original music and interpretive dance collaboration between singer-songwriter Julian Temple and contemporary dancer Amber Stephens.
Temple, known mostly for his work in the eponymous Julian Temple Band of Dunedin has written all new works for the project while Stephens, a trained contemporary ballet dancer and choreographer who ran her own dance company in Vienna, has choreographed the interpretive dance for this unique performance.
Dancer and musician utilise theatrical elements with costume and face paint to create an immersive and visceral environment. The dancer articulates the songs with a variety of movement styles ranging from mime to hip hop to fluid contemporary dance. Guitar with looping and pedals supports a bluesy, gravelly voice that will carry you through a multitude of cadence, resonance and emotion.
The Amber Temple marries mysticism with gritty, ghoulish escapades of rogues and renegades. Vignettes of characters similar to you, similar to me, similar to someone you may have been or may one day become, all on the path towards the Amber Temple.
