<image:title>GIGS - SAM BARTELLS & BAND - Sam Bartells & 3 Piece Band</image:title>
<image:caption>Come and support and be part of NZ Music Month! If you love music that feels real, raw, and hits you right in the chest, you need to be at this show. Sam Bartells is one of those rare artists who can hush a room with a lyric and have it roaring a minute later. Born in Auckland, was signed in Nashville, Sam’s sound blends old-school country grit with a fresh, modern edge, with and mix of Rock to creating something truly his own. He is back after two years off and his last two shows were sold out! His songs are stories – of heartbreak and redemption, struggle and hope – carried on soulful vocals and stripped-back honesty that make you feel every word. With multiple NZ Top 40 tracks, Twice in The Rock 2000 and gigs from small bars to a 50,000-strong Bledisloe crowd, Sam has earned a loyal following the hard way: one song, one stage, one real connection at a time. This is your chance to catch Sam up close and personal – the music, and a room full of people who get it. A voice that aches, lyrics that heal. This will be a 3 piece band gig. <image:title>GIGS - TAHINI BIKINI w SIG WILDER & FRIENDS - Tahini Bikini and Sig Wilder & Friends Funk Up The Country Tour!</image:title>
<image:caption>Pōneke-based Tahini Bikini are known for their distinctive sound, a combination of funk, soul and pop influences elevated by frontwoman Mads Taylor’s frank, feisty lyrics and smoky voice. The seven-piece group released their debut album Fever Dream in 2022, and have since become a fixture at festivals across Aotearoa, performing at Rhythm & Vines, Great Sounds Great, Welcome to Nowhere, Cuba Dupa, Outfield, Twisted Frequency and more. As well as Mads on lead vocals, the band features a talented collective of musicians: Mathew Campbell (Backing Vocals, percussion) Darcy Monteath (Bass), Eric Sebastian (drums), Alex Scott-Billing (Guitar) Cameron Robertson (Trumpet) and Aidan Mcculloch (Saxophone/keys). In 2025 Tahini Bikini released a run of confident, polished singles, with lines like tell me does it taste good when you lick those boots? from 'Mother' emphasising a turn towards a more pointed, critical tone in the Mads’ songwriting. Sig Wilder & Friends are Aotearoa’s alt-country storytellers. The band is a D.I.Y. collective currently featuring Mads Taylor (drums/vocals), Tessa Dillon (bass/vocals), Sofia Machray (guitar/vocals) and Sig on lead vocals/guitar. Since forming, they’ve become a familiar fixture in Wellington’s independent music scene, toured around Aotearoa, and won media acclaim from The Post, Ensemble Magazine, Under The Radar, and Radio Active 88.6 FM. As Sig knows, personal growth is a long and winding road. “This project is about becoming content with who I am,” he says. “That’s how it started, and I am in no way finished on that journey. But I’m happy with the cowboy that I’ve become, regardless of any notions of how one “should” be a cowboy.” With heartfelt storytelling and infectious melodies, Sig Wilder & Friends take the listener on a journey through the hills and plains of Aotearoa, weaving the essence of Americana into the fabric of Aotearoa’s musical landscape. <image:title>GIGS - LOVE SQUARE - LOVE SQUARE - back for a another splendid afternoon at the Mill</image:title>
<image:caption>....after a summer spent mountaineering and a winter of relentless practice this trio is finally back stalking Leigh and the general Cape Rodney area carrying armfuls of horns and tambourines! Band leader and howling sax man Nick Atkinson is fresh from learning all of the glorious sax solos from the Pink Floyd cannon as part of the Come Toegther band, not to mention a 17 date tour with Supergroove earlier in the year. While they maybe distracting endeavours what he really craves is an attentive and typically open minded Leigh Sawmill audience, a crowd that changes the sound of the band, a room full of sea-side personalities who will bend this supple ensemble to their will. You could be in that exclusive ground for a mere $29 investment! Finn Scholes has recently added harmonica to the long list of instruments he's mastered. How will he shoehorn this tiny instrument into these Love Square sets? Scholes' lips will be distended from three consecutive nights playing tuba for the Exploding Rainbow Orchestra, but his list of credits and musical accomplishments would fill an extensive scroll and it would be far to laborious to consolidate it here. Scholes pursuit of the hottest possible trumpet lick continues and you may indeed hear this elusive phrase on Sunday, November 9th at the Mill. Don't sleep! Alistair Deverick is the not-so-secret weapon of the band. Finn's Carnivorous Plant Society partner in crime is unleashed for a world-girlding jazz journey while drumming for Love Square. Despite a tumble during the trios expedition to climb Mt O'Leary in the Southern Alps somewhere between Fiordland and Mt Aspiring, Al has quite literally bounced back and since you've last seen us he's learnt the extensive and challenging technique of John Bonham for the esteemed Come Together band and it shows. The man is a Tsunami of rhythm. He's also packing a trombone. If this weren't enough Love Square will have their new album available. Live at the Oven Vol.II will be in-stock. Please do join us for our party! DOORS 4pm ONSTAGE 430pm - playing two sets Kids are most welcome and those 12 and under are free with an adult guardian!</image:caption>

<image:title>GIGS - LACHIE HAYES - SUBSATELLITE TOUR - Lachie Hayes is a rising alt-country artist from the deep south of Aotearoa</image:title>
<image:caption>Known for his raw storytelling, genre-blurring sound, and strong sense of place. Raised on a sheep farm in the Catlins, he grew up playing music in woolsheds and country halls alongside his family’s bluegrass band. His debut album Subsatellite, produced by Delaney Davidson, fuses blues, country and rock—full of moody textures, vivid characters, and lyrics that linger. Lachie’s sound is shaped by everyday moments, old Westerns, and the poetic grit of artists like Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters. Authentic, earthy, and quietly ambitious, he’s part of a new generation redefining what country music can sound like in Aotearoa. Backed by his band, Lachie brings gritty grooves, soaring ballads, and a stage presence that’s equal parts southern charm and storyteller grit. With singles like This River and S.O.B already making waves, Lachie is quickly becoming one of the most compelling voices in New Zealand’s alt-country scene. DOORS 4pm ONSTAGE 430pm</image:caption>

<image:title>GIGS - THE AMBER TEMPLE - The Amber Temple is an original music and interpretive dance collaboration between singer-songwriter Julian Temple and contemporary dancer Amber Stephens.</image:title>
<image:caption>Temple, known mostly for his work in the eponymous Julian Temple Band of Dunedin has written all new works for the project while Stephens, a trained contemporary ballet dancer and choreographer who ran her own dance company in Vienna, has choreographed the interpretive dance for this unique performance. Dancer and musician utilise theatrical elements with costume and face paint to create an immersive and visceral environment. The dancer articulates the songs with a variety of movement styles ranging from mime to hip hop to fluid contemporary dance. Guitar with looping and pedals supports a bluesy, gravelly voice that will carry you through a multitude of cadence, resonance and emotion. The Amber Temple marries mysticism with gritty, ghoulish escapades of rogues and renegades. Vignettes of characters similar to you, similar to me, similar to someone you may have been or may one day become, all on the path towards the Amber Temple. “A live dancer added a visceral element to an already emotional performance. Having a responsive artist interacting and interpreting the music through movement only heightened the experience. It bridged the gap between performer and audience.” - Ed Castelow - Dictaphone Blues “You’ll be a converted fan of The Amber Temple before they’ve even finished their first song. There’s an obvious sense of originality, coupled with carefully crafted dance moments and some of the most intense and outstanding folk songwriting you’ve heard. There’s a feeling though that nothing is premeditated and that improvisation is the star of the show - the kind of performance that requires decades of experience. Luckily for us, Julian and Amber have this in spades. Do yourself a favour, I guarantee you’ve seen nothing like it.” - Sam Cullen - Singer/Songwriter “Even having an understanding of the type of show The Amber Temple would be putting on when booking them - I was blown away by the amount of drama, tension and world-building Julian & Amber are able to accomplish in such an agile performance. The Amber Temple is a totally unique and utterly engaging experience which should be seen and celebrated.” - Chris Scott - Seaside Music Check out this vid then grab a ticket! <image:title>GIGS - GRETA O'LEARY & FABLES - Dark River Album Release Tour - Taking her brand new album to the stage for the first time around Aotearoa, GRETA O'LEARY performs 'River Dark' this August 31st in celebration of the release.</image:title>
<image:caption>Tāmaki Makaurau singer-songwriter and musician GRETA O'LEARY writes with clarity of vision, making introspective observations that seamlessly interlock with her spare, spacious and enthralling songcraft. Through soaring instrumentation, astute and occasionally absurd lyrics of self-reflection and her poignant voice, River Dark is a remarkable collection of confession, truth and poetry. The album - which shot to #9 on the Aotearoa Official Albums Chart - features the breakout singles 'Baby I'm a Singer' and 'Baptised at the Desktop Computer' and seen great support from RNZ, the SRN and Rolling Stone. Joining her at the Sawmill will be her stellar full band Jol Mulholland (Liam Finn, French for Rabbits), Nava Tekela-Pule (Erny Belle, LEAO), Alistair Deverick (Boycrush) and Amy Boroevich (HINA). *************************** For the last decade, Jessica Bailey’s Fables folk ensemble has been a familiar fixture in Aotearoa’s independent music scene. Their sound elegantly marries the intimacy of folk revival music with the rustic, expansive qualities of Americana and alt-country, drawing comparisons to Gillian Welch, Laura Marling and their peers. <image:caption>Performing songs from his brand-new album, Leaders. With his signature fusion of reggae, folk, rock, and soul, the album explores themes of unity, resilience, and positive change — timely messages for today’s world. Joining him for the New Zealand leg are none other than Masaya, one of Aotearoa’s most exciting emerging acts. Emerging from the salt-kissed shores of Whāingaroa (Raglan), Masaya is a powerful musical force blending soulful melodies, rootsy rhythms, and honest storytelling. Formed in 2019 by siblings Kaea and Reiki Ruawai, and longtime friend Muroki, the group first turned heads with their debut EP Tongue & Groove, offering a fresh take on Aotearoa’s rich roots and soul scene. After Muroki branched off to pursue a solo career, Kaea and Reiki continued to evolve the Masaya sound — diving deeper into groove-driven rhythms, tight arrangements, and heartfelt lyricism. Their debut full-length album, Chronicles of Youth, is a coming-of-age soundtrack weaving reggae, funk, soul, and surf rock into a uniquely coastal Kiwi experience. With a reputation for high-energy live shows and a kaupapa of connection and authenticity, Masaya has toured across Aotearoa and Australia, playing festivals, headline shows, and community events that move both body and spirit. <image:title>GIGS - DELANEY DAVIDSON - ANNIVERSARY TOUR - With multiple album Anniversaries this year, Delaney Davidson takes to the road in July to celebrate his extensive and star studded catalogue with special band The Anniversaries.</image:title>
<image:caption>15 years ago, Delaney Davidson joined Reverend Beat Man - cult figure, gospel trash preacher, and founder of the hugely influential Swiss record label VOODOO RHYTHM RECORDS, to release “Self Decapitation” and a year later “Bad Luck Man”. Watch the Video “I’m So Depressed” from the album “Back Luck Man” Generally dealing with the darker side of things, Delaney Davidson has been described as “being the reigning king of capturing the essence of “Noir” in Country and Folk Music, pushing at the framework and preconceptions of roots music with his brand of modern gothic Americana.” (Post to Wire). Having spent the last 20 years as travelling “troubadour" around the globe, sometimes solo, sometimes with accomplices, but always with his Ghost Orchestra, Delaney Davidson has found new focus embracing a love of Aotearoa. Through his collaborative work with Troy Kingi “ Black Sea, Golden Ladder”, his visual art work with Tame Iti, and his most current album “Out Of My Head” produced by Merk, he has featured such varied talents as Hayley Westenra and Reb Fountain and has toured with Chamber Music New Zealand - all the while continuing to reinvent concepts and challenge expectations, and gaining respect and admiration from audiences. "Incontestably one of Aotearoa’s most influential and lauded contemporary songwriters” Under The Radar Delaney Davidson now takes his band of Anniversaries on the local roads around Aotearoa, don’t miss a night of wry sense of humour, some theatre of unease, and a rocking collection of bangers from his extensive back catalogue as he celebrates the music that got him where he is today. We’re pretty stoked to have had Delaney play at the Mill many times over those 20 years, this’ll be one of those shows not to miss! DOORS 430pm ONSTAGE 530pm</image:caption>

DOORS OPEN at 5pm SHOW STARTS at 6pm Jubilation Choir has been celebrating the naked human voice in all its glory since they got together 25 years ago to sing songs in the gospel a cappella tradition. In recent years they’ve branched out in the same way gospel left the fields and found a city groove, interpreting artists like Prince & Joan as Police Woman, and placing them comfortably alongside old gospel favourites such as Blind Willie Johnson, Thomas A Dorsey and that wunderkind ‘Trad’. It’s a groovy mix of the divine and the profane, the sweet and the raucous, Americana meets Aotearoa. What the world needs now is more harmony, so expect plenty of life affirming, joyful vocal vibes guaranteed to raise the roof!</image:caption>

<image:title>GIGS - ERNY BELLE & FULL BAND - Join Erny Belle and the full band for lovely evening at Mill.</image:title>
<image:caption>Erny Belle is a singer-songwriter from Aōtearoa (New Zealand) known for her genre-defying sound, blending pacific-pop, folk, and country influences with deeply personal and poetic lyricism. Her meteoric rise followed the independent release of critically acclaimed debut record ‘Venus is Home’ (2022) with singles ‘Burning Heaven’ and ‘Hellhole’. A sublime album recorded in the summer of 2019 at her fathers home (an old bus shed, north of Auckland), the nine-song voyage of graceful ruminations, was a stunning introduction to the neorealism yet rich world of Erny Belle. In 2023, Erny Belle signed to legendary New Zealand label Flying Nun Records and released her highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Not Your Cupid’. Co-produced by herself and De Stevens at Roundhead Studios. The album was nominated for the Taite Music Prize and Album Of The Year at the Aotearoa Music Awards in 2024. It was ranked No.1 New Zealand album of 2023 by Rolling Stone Australia. ‘Not Your Cupid’ is described by Renata as her Te Ao Mārama era, stepping into a world of light. “It’s more about the future & imagining than painting scenes of life around me. Less narrative, more cryptic, less thought, more intuition. Plucked from the clouds or stars somewhere & brought to life by many talented hands.” Oh it’ll be a goodie Check out the vid for Unchained here R18 | Doors 8pm</image:caption>

<image:title>GIGS - NADIA REID - 'Singer-songwriter Nadia Reid is one of New Zealand’s best-kept secrets' - The Guardian</image:title>
<image:caption>This November, acclaimed songwriter and New Zealand's sweetheart, Nadia Reid journeys back from her new home in the United Kingdom's North West for a series of pre-summer shows in a selection of her favourite towns, and we’re one! Reid will be joined as ever by her resounding band; guitarist Sam Taylor, drummer Joe McCallum and bassist Richie Pickard. Known for her ruminative and well-crafted folk-inflected songwriting that’s elicited acclaim both at home and abroad. Through her 3 albums she’s continued to perfect her deft blend of textural pop and country-leaning folk-rock with elegant melodies and intelligent lyrics. <image:title>GIGS - SINGALONG SEA SHANTIES! - WELLINGTON SEA SHANTY SOCIETY</image:title>
<image:caption>OH SO GOOD AT THE MILL! Aotearoa New Zealand's Most 'Sea Worthy' Shanty Group™ have been belting out traditional and original sea songs from Aotearoa, France, Spain, the UK and more, since time immemorial (2012). Seafarers and landlubbers from across the globe have been battered by the rousing chorus of this 4-sailor squall of pure shanty. With squeezebox, git-fiddle, fiddle, and drums expect rousing harmonies and raucous foot-stomping abound! Plus, the W.S.S.S believe that 'a shanty shared is a shanty savoured', so they pass out shanty song sheets so we can all sing along. Their live performances have turned into raucous crowd-participating evenings around the capital and there's certainly a Mumford and Sons-style danceability to these nine tracks which take them beyond simple comic value - although you'll be hard-pressed not to listen with a smile on your face. <image:caption>Join Delaney & Barry in celebrating the release of their new album - Happiness is Near Some songs were the result of our work together and some had come to us solo. They were looser songs, less band, more reflective, more folky. Like we were looking into a void to see what the shapes were that made up this vacuum we felt connected us. “Our partnership has become deeper and at the same time more distant. Less time together and more care. It’s always amazing to see what comes from Barry and his world of green black windbreaks and burning white sun, magpies, pale grass and fresh crisp blue mornings, it always feels like home somehow” Delaney Davidson “Delaney is a true artist to the core and we always seem to be able to find a spark” Barry Saunders Watch the video for their first single “Man Of Few Words” SOLD OUT!
